In the summer of 2025, I was at an all-time low in my life. I was feeling spiritually empty and had no sense of direction. An ambitious God-seeker who was always seeking growth and improvement felt defeated from years of failure and financial drought.
And as I began to break down inside, just before the tears rolled, I prayed and asked God for direction. The Holy Spirit answered and said, “Go back to your dream journal and categorize all your dreams. Go from there”.
You see, at this point, I had been journaling my dreams for almost a year, but I never went back to look over any of the entries. And never in a million years could I have known what was plainly hidden in my dreams was about to drastically change my life forever.
Before I reveal what I found that summer, let me first explain to you why it’s important for you to start recording your dreams, a very simple yet profound thing.
1. It Shows God You Value Hearing From Him
Waking up every morning to intentionally write or record your dreams requires absolute commitment. In other words, we can say that’s diligence. The very same thing God said in Proverbs 8:17, that if we seek Him that way, we will find Him.
I find that when I commit to writing down my dreams, I dream more and remember them more clearly because it’s something I’m interested in. So if you want to hear from God more, show him you’re interested. Keep a dream journal.
2. It Helps You Identify Your Current Seasons
Life is made up of seasons, and we have time to thank for that. What’s even more amazing is that we all go through our individual seasons brought about by changes in our lives. And guess what? Most people are iky about change, but it is inevitable.
But what do seasons have to do with dreams? Well, dreams also reflect an individual’s seasons because your dreams will show your spiritual state; whether you’re lost or on the path you need to be on, whether you are weak or strong, what spiritual sources you’re engaged with, the powers that are dominant in your life, etc. All of which can usually be traced back to your relationship with God.
3. It Helps You Interpret Your Dreams
Dream interpretation is a big deal. It’s the difference between getting a message and actually understanding that that message holds the key to massive change in your life. I’m sure you’ve noticed that the moment you’re awake and open your eyes, any memory of a dream will start to fade. That’s because your natural senses are beginning to connect you to the natural realm so you can understand and navigate it. Which is why one of the fastest ways to engage the spiritual realm is to close your eyes, the window to your soul.
Ok, let me stop myself from going down this rabbit hole. To properly interpret a dream, you need the details. Not fading, distorted, or mixed-up details that your mind will recall later on. And the clearest and most accurate details are when you just wake, so grab a pen or a recorder!
After carefully going through each entry, which turned out to be hundreds of dreams, I was able to place my dreams into 9 main categories. Four of those categories included;
Not to dwell on the negative here, but I actually realized that these dreams of delay were going on much longer than when I started journaling. It made sense as to why nothing I did for years bore fruit. At that point, I had suffered so much loss, delay, setback, and unfruitfulness that I was beginning to doubt all the good I foresaw for my life.
The really great thing about all this? Now I was aware, and awareness is the first step toward change.
From here, I started doing several things. The very first was to get closer to God, as I know He had all the answers, and my breakthrough. I started bringing my situation before Him daily because I desperately NEEDED a change in my life.
I also went on fasts and prayer marathons against the specific spirits that were at work in my life. Of course, this meant spiritual warfare. I will talk more about this in another post, so make sure to subscribe to be notified when each post is released.
Fast forward to today, and I have sure to go back to my dream entries from time to time to identify patterns, recurring dreams (these are urgent), and seasons. I
As a result, I’ve seen much progress in my life, and so many hidden things have come to light. Things I used to struggle with, I no longer. And…drum roll…I have started seeing much progress in the things I have put my hands to!
My advice to you? If you haven’t yet, get started on your dream diary right away.
